After winning promotion and going through Division 3 undefeated last year Penicuik 2 had their first taste of Division 2 action with a home match against an experienced Police Team. Clive Liddiard who was the League player of the year for the 2013/14 season joined forces with Brian Bailey and Ian Woodyer for their opener. Clive continued his excellent form from last season by winning all three of his matches whilst Brian won 2 and combined with Clive in the doubles for an important win, resulting in a winning 6-4 start for the 2nd Team.
Also in Division 2, Penicuik 3 had an excellent away win at Corstorphine. James Wighton was the player of the night for Penicuik winning all 3 of his singles matches. With the match tied at 4-4 Abby Wighton gave the Team an unassailable 5-4 advantage by winning 11-8 in the deciding end of her match before dad James finished the night on a high by winning deuce in the fifth against Corstorphine's number 1. Gary McDougal picked up 2 wins to give the team a 6-4 win and an encouraging start to the new campaign.
Not such good news, however, for the 4th Team in their Division 3 encounter against West Lothian. Phil Daly, Neil Hayes and Kris Laszkiewicz could all only manage one win as the fourth team went down 7-3 at home to their Bathgate based opponents in their opening match of the campaign.
Finally, in Week 1, Penicuik’s new fifth team had their first experience of competitive League play in Division 4. With all of Penicuik’s players making their debuts, it looked like being a difficult night for the Team against Murrayfield 8. Far from it, however, as the home team romped home to an 8-2 victory, Gregory Leplatre winning all 3 of his matches, backed up by two of the Club’s promising youngsters, Luke Hennessey and Louis Myatt who both won two of their 3 matches. Gregory combined with Luke to win the doubles in what turned out to be the Club’s best result of the week.
